How a team of cardiologists are changing healthcare

A few years ago several frustrated cardiologists discussed the many challenges they and their patients faced in their industry.

Without a database, doctors often find themselves spending a lot of time scanning paperwork and digging through graphs and health records to try to evaluate a patient’s condition. If a patient had been treated at a different hospital or medical center, important pieces of their history — prescriptions they had taken, even the outcomes of surgeries — were sometimes inaccessible altogether. This meant doctors had no easy way to record and compare data, the kind of information that in the most serious cases can help determine whether a critical prescription or procedure could save someone’s life.

Those same cardiologists ultimately did what doctors do best — they figured out an effective treatment plan to alleviate those issues. A team of cardiovascular specialists developed EHR software and diagnostic tools to efficiently manage vital patient information for healthcare practices, ultimately founding Objective Medical Systems. This niche technology has been able to streamline the work of medical personnel and reduce human error, as well as save time and money for both the doctors and the patients.

Our Mission

In a world where medical software is systemically plagued by complexity, OMS is helping cardiologists take back control. Created by and for cardiologists, allow us to restore your faith in what’s possible.

Objective Medical Systems

OMS was founded on the belief that discrete data and background analysis will revolutionize the practice of medicine, improve patient care, increase physician efficiency and reduce errors. The OMS software solution was developed and inspired by leading cardiologists in each sub-specialty of cardiology.

OMS caters to the busy cardiology practice or hospital service line looking for a cardiovascular information system providing structured reporting across all diagnostic modalities. In addition, OMS offers a Stage 3 certified electronic health record built from the ground up for cardiology specialists. By maintaining a narrow focus on cardiology, OMS is able to offer an elaborate, powerful, and user-intuitive solution.

Electrophysiologist, Interventional Cardiologist

Dr. Abben has a broad experience in both interventional cardiology and cardiac electrophysiology, and is a lecturer, researcher, and published author in both areas. With this background, he has successfully developed a large clinical practice, consistently being named by both Louisiana Life and New Orleans magazines as one of Louisiana’s “Best Doctors.” He has particular expertise in cardiac rhythm devices, having been one of the South’s first implanters of a cardiac resynchronization pacemaker in 1998. His experience has allowed him to organize and direct an ongoing physician’s training course in device therapy. In addition, for twenty-five years he co-directed an international cardiology symposium in cardiovascular interventions entitled “Principles and Perspectives in Interventional Cardiology,” an annual venue that has constantly attracted the leading minds in interventional cardiology as faculty members.
